About Kenkun Shrine
Kenkun Shrine (Takeisaojinja) is a somewhat smaller shrine on the Funaoka mountainside, Kita-ku, Kyoto. It is a shrine that is enshrined Oda Nobunaga. In general, it is called “Kenkunjinja”.
In 1869, “The Japan was not invaded by the foreign country, it is thanks to Nobunaga who brought together the Japan aiming at the unification of the whole country”, and Emperor Meiji decided to build the Takeshioritanoyashiro for Oda Nobunaga who united the Warring States era, advanced the reconstruction of the ceremony and etc. After that, the Mt.funaoka of the current location is located in the four-god-appropriate tortoise of Heian-kyo, and it is the ground where Toyotomi Hideyoshi ordained as Nobunaga’s Byosho.
You will visit the Kenkun shrine by climbing Funaoka Mountain. However, there is a parking lot space near the shrine entrance which truckloads the slope.
The site area of the shrine is not large, but the buildings are clean and the impression of being well maintained. And, the view of Kyoto City from the precincts of Funaoka is quite beautiful.
