About Kamigamo Shrine

Kamigamo Shrine is formally called Kamobetsurai Shrine, and is located in Kamigamo, Kita-ku, Kyoto-city. It is registered as a UNESCO World cultural heritage and attracts attention. It is told that Kamobetsurai-no-mikoto descended in the Miaresho at the foot of Kamo Mountain in the age of the Emperor Jinmu in the shrine biography though there are various theories. The Kamigamo shrine also hold an Aoi festival with the Shimogamo shrine, and the Aoi festival is posted on this site.

In the gate of the Kamigamo shrine, there is a splendid mansion where the Shinto priesthood people who are called Shake live, and the temple area leaves a historical spectacle.

In addition, the Suguki a little sour pickle of Kyoto style is famous when saying Kamigamo, but Jinbado’s roast rice cake on the west side of the shrine entrance is also very famous.

Access	From JR Kyoto Station ・Take the No. 4 bus bound for Kamigamo Shrine and get off at the last stop, Kamigamo Shrine. ・Take the No. 9 train bound for Nishigamo Shako, get off at Kamigamo Misonobashi bus stop, and walk 3 minutes. From Kitaoji Subway Station ・Take line 37 to Nishigamo Shako, get off at Kamigamo Misonobashi bus stop, and walk 3 minutes. ・1 min. walk from “Goenguchi-cho” on the North 3rd line bound for Kyoto Sangyo Univ. From Kitayama Subway Station ・Take line 4 to Kamigamo Jinja, last stop, and get off at Kamigamo Jinja. From Keihan Demachiyanagi Station ・Take line 4 to Kamigamo Jinja, last stop, and get off at Kamigamo Jinja. From Hankyu Omiya Station ・Take No. 46, bound for Kamigamo Jinja, last stop, and get off at Kamigamo Jinja.

Shimogamo Shrine

The Shimogamo Shrine is officially called the Kamomiso Shrine. The registration of UNESCO's World Heritage has raised the profile. It is said that it is a shrine honoring the god of the ancient clans Kamo, along with Kamigamo shrine(Kamobetsurai shrine). The south side of the shrine is a native forest called Tadasuno forest, with old trees.

Kawai Shrine

The Kawai shrine is a shrine on the grounds of the Shimogamo shrine. This is a shrine of women's patron, and there are many female worshippers.

Kyoto Botanical Garden

The Kyoto Botanical Garden opened in 1924 as the first public botanical garden in Japan. It is located along the Kamo River in Shimogamo, Sakyo-ku, Kyoto.
