Oh, everyone, look at this. This is wonderful.

Cherry blossoms at Myokenji Temple Part 1

This is truly a spectacular hanami spot!

Cherry blossoms at Myokenji Temple Part 2

I am in the precincts of a temple with a very quiet, yet very large main hall. The temple, called Myokenji, was built in 1321 by Priest Nichizo.

Priest Nichizo, a grand disciple of Nichiren Shonin, devoted his life to missionary work in Kyoto in order to fulfill Nichiren Shonin’s dying wish to establish Myokenji Temple in Kyoto.

Here is the main hall in Myokenji Temple.

At any rate, its scale is huge.

I was surprised by the size of this main hall. When you get nearer and nearer, you would feel the air of the huge hall itself coming engulfing you. At any rate, it is tremendous! However, there is no pressure for it. The huge hall stands there quietly and majestically. That is the Myokenji Temple’s big main hall.

Incidentally, inside this hall, a magnificent group of golden statues of Buddha, which should be called the Gohonzon, is enshrined there. At the center of the gorgeous golden statues is a golden statue of Nichiren Shonin, the founder of Nichiren Sect.

The group of Buddhist statues in this large main hall is also quite impressive. Please check what they are like by yourself.

Another attraction of Myokenji Temple is, for example, the Shikai Shodo Garden, a very beautiful garden.

Shikai Shodo Garden

“Shikai Shodo” includes the meaning “to lead all people of the world to the teaching of the Lotus Sutra and save them through its merits.”

Shikai Shodo Garden. Three stones representing waterfalls.

The three stones on the far left represent a waterfall, and the water flowing down from the waterfall spreads into the ocean represented by the white sand.

The precincts of the temple are filled with wonderful cherry blossoms everywhere. The main hall stands quietly there watching over all visitors. And in the main hall of the temple, golden-colored statues of the Buddha still carry on the truth of “Nam-Myoho-Renge-Kyo” to the present day.

I really had a wonderful time under the clear spring sky!
