The first chapter: Thank you. You’re welcome.

Rajomon Gate in the clear sky
“Well, here you are.”

I, Kuya who returned to Rajomon slowly helped the woman up, plucked a small piece of dried fish with my handm and used chopsticks to bring a bowl of white rice from the rice box to her mouth. The woman slowly opens her mouth and puts rice in her mouth, then begins to eat a small piece of plucked dried fish.

“How is this?”
I ask so with smile.
“Yes, they are delicious. Such fine rice and dried fish for me, and even water…”
The woman looked into my eyes sobbing. Slight accumulation of tears in the eyes.
Her eyes looked strangely beautiful and clean.
“Thank you.”
Though weak and frail, her eyes seem to have regain some of their sparkle.
“Good. Now, please eat slowly.”
“Yes, sir.”

I occasionally rubbed the woman’s back gently, and at her request, I alternately brought rice and dried fish to her mouth. And occasionally I would give her a drink of water that Ren had fetched from the well.

The woman must have originally wanted to eat. She is a very good eater, unlike a sick person. I am sure she will recover quickly.

When the woman finished eating, then Ren wrings out a white rag that has been soaked in a round wooden tub filled with water, drains it, and wipes her sister’s face – black and dirty – as she lies down to sleep.

As Ren wipes her sister’s face gently and slowly the dirty face gradually became cleaner, and her original white and beautiful skin has got to appear. When I look at the woman’s face which became clean again, after all, there is a beauty that somehow exudes elegance. Her age is 15 or 16 years old. Having her face wiped with the white rug contained clear water, her facial expression has gradually become calmer.

She now seems to be very comfortable.

After wiping her sister’s face with the cloth, Ren wrung it out again and placed it on her sister’s forehead, a look of relief on her face.
Kotaro, the large white dog is staring at such Ren with black brilliant eyes.

“My sister seems to be comfortable.”
“Yes, good.”
She should be okay for now. Now, she just needs to rest and eat a little more food, and she should recover soon.
“Kuya”
“Yes.”
When I noticed it, Ren was looking at me. With happiness and calmness on her face.
“Thank you.”
And Ren gently snuggles up to me.
“Thank you, Kuya.”

Ren’s body is faintly sobbing and shaking a little. I hold her body gently with a peaceful expression on my face. Then, with one hand, I would slowly and gently stroke Ren’s head.

“You’re welcome.”
