Hona Sainara

What do you say when you leave?
I think it’s “Good bye, see you later” in the standard language.
Many people say “Bye” in such cases.

It is said “Hona sainara”, “Hona mata” or “Hona matane” in Kyoto.
More abbreviated, it is said “Honane” or “Hona!”.

On the contrary, people who are fond to use English word such as “Good bye!” are called Ikiri in Kyoto and Osaka, and don’t give good impression. For “papa” and “mama”, they are a little cold.

By the way, “Hona” means “well, in the standard language, it sounds strange twice for “Hona matane, hona matane”.

It makes sense to say “Hona matane, sainara”.

It is the expression that is used against relatively friendly people.
