Good morning!
This is Kurama Tengu( ̄▽ ̄)b.
This title with feeling that something has come too late. I think that those who have started Web designs recently thought what was Movable Type.
Movable Type (abbreviated as MT after that) is a name of software that can construct CMS (Content Management System) just like WordPress. MT used to be free to use, but we have to pay a fee to use it now.
The differences between WordPress (abbreviated as WP after that) and MT are not only that WP is free and MT is charged but also several systematic differences.
WordPress
- As pages are produced dynamically by PHP, its display speed is slow.
- The used language is PHP of general-purpose language. However, it also uses the original WordPress tag.
- The number of users is overwhelmingly large in the world, and all questions will be solved if we Google search.
- Absolutely free to use. And many abundant plugins are free to use.
- We need to contract with the rental server that can use MySQL database.
MovableType
- It describes using its original language MT tag.
- It had many users in Japan before, but now its use is limited to applications such as companies’ Home Page.
- The waiting time occurs called reconstruction whenever we rewrite it.
- Users can have access to quick display speed as its structure is that we view static HTML pages produced by reconstruction.
- It has fewer users now, and it is difficult to collect know-hows by Google search.
- Many plugins are charged.

Although I have talked so far, I have no experience to build a production site using MT. I started to study MT first for the time being when I was at a loss to choose which I should study WP or MT, though… Among MT there is open-source version MTOS and I was looking it promising, but the rental server that can use MySQL was a bit costly at that time, and for this reason, I chose the Movable Type with open-source version of it.
But I have been worried for a long time about the slow display speed of pages produced by WordPress, and I have tried a lot of cache plugins but we have higher effect in speed when we deal with it through optimization of the processing method (algorithm) of PHP program or shorten the file sizes of pictures we use, or other several tune-ups.
The problems of the slow WordPress are widespread in every place, and the movement is likely active recently to replace the server hardware storage from slow HDD to fast SSD, starting from pricy rental servers. Also, various efforts have been made to solve the problem of slow WordPress site by acceleration (dozens of percent) from software side too through upgrade of PHP main unit (PHP7).
In this way the flow of the times is greatly inclined to exclusively WordPress, but as for author myself I think however fast the dynamic sites would become, it won’t be able to win the instant display of static HTML and I expect that super CMS will come into reality in the next era that has smooth display as in MT and we need not to reconstruct it every time.
Excuse me for talking professional story today. (^_^;)
