About Awata Shrine
The Awata Shrine is a shrine located in Kyoto City Higashiyama Ward Awataguchi Tanji town. Its deity is 11 pillars including Susanoo no Mikoto, Oanamuchi no Mikoto.
It is seated in Awataguchi, one of Kyoto’s seven gates, and has gathered people’s worships as a guardian god for departures from long time ago. Even today, some people dedicate an ema (votive tablet) or buy an omamori (good luck charm) before departing on a trip.
In the past, swordsmiths lived in the vicinity of Awataguchi, where the Awata Shrine is located, and their trade name was Awataguchi, or Sanjo Ko-Kaji, as it faced Sanjo Street.
On the day I was going to take photos, I was lost in the Awata Shrine by mistake, while looking for the entrance gate of remains of Seiren-in gate, but I unexpectedly discovered hidden autumn leaves spots. The view of Kyoto City from the point climbed up the slope of the approach road was somewhat great.

Remains of Shoren-in gate
Shoren-in Monzeki is a temple of the Tendai sect located in Awataguchi, Higashiyama-ku, Kyoto. Along with Kajii (Sanzenin) and Myohoin, Shoren-in is one of the three monzeki temples of the Tendai sect (Tendai Sanmonzeki).
Chionin Temple
Chionin is a temple with a very large Sanmon and Mikagedo of Jodo head in Higashiyama-ku, Kyoto. Chionin officially called the Kachozan Chionkyoin Otani Temple, and at the foot there is a Kacho junior college.
Maruyama Park
If you go to the back of Gion Yasaka Shrine, there is Maruyama park. The Maruyama park is adjacent to the Yasaka Shrine, Kodai Temple and Chion Temple, and it would be fun to look around together.
