It has been a long time.
I have been here for the first time in 9 years.

Exterior view of Kyoto Muse.

You asked where here is? Phew, here is Kyoto MUSE, one of several live houses in Kyoto. It is located right outside exit 13 of Shijo Station and there is a hot rock’n’roll concert tonight there.

The Street Beats and Strong Style signs.

The bands performing are THE STREET BEATS, with STRONG STYLE as the opening guest. STREET BEATS is Japan’s one and only strongest rock band, celebrating the 35th anniversary of their debut this year and the 40th anniversary of their formation next year. The guest, STRONG STYLE also celebrates its 30th anniversary this year. It can be said that both are one of the strongest rock bands in Japan.

They will be performing tonight October 29, 2023, at Kyoto MUSE.
In particular, OKI-san the leader of STREET BEATS, suffered a brain hemorrhage caused by arteriosclerosis about two months ago, called left capsular hemorrhage (left hiccup hemorrhage), but he is still fighting the disease with his indomitable spirit and performing live throughout the country.

So, I wanted to go there after a long time.
Because I felt that I could see the true embodiment of ROCK here.

Kyoto Muse live stage.

And then it turns into a certainty.

Illustration of live audience

A hot opening by STRONG STYLE started the show, and the audience was in climax mode from the top of the doo-doo. There was a scene where they said “guests, it’s a bit much (laughs), but it’s nice, and I couldn’t help laughing. Thirty years is a long time to form a group, and it has its own weight. That’s why they can sing more robust songs. It is truly STRONG STYLE, just as the name implies.

And… next, it’s finally time for THE STREET BEATS.

At first, OKI-san looked somewhat listless, (or maybe it was just my imagination) as he took the stage at the live house, but my fears were quickly dispelled the moment he began singing. Or rather, it was as if the disease itself was blown far away with tremendous power the moment the live performance began.

He said that his speech center was not functioning well due to his illness and that he had severe stiffness in both arms…
Despite this, he continued to strum his guitars and sing powerfully in the midst of the explosion of sound.

Is he really sick? Amazing!

There was such an amazing sight there that I couldn’t help but think so. I’m sure it’s partly due to the rehabilitation at the hospital, but still it’s amazing. After all, those who live in ROCK, must be… I think the essence of BEATS ROCK is that even when faced with difficulties, never be crushed by them, no matter how much knocked down, to continue to fight against difficulties and to get back up again and again. And I have seen with my own eyes tonight the men who truly embody this.
I believe the charm of experiencing music at live house is while touching live, powerful music fully, you can experience the best moments. There seem to be various other live houses in Kyoto besides Kyoto MUSE, so it might be a good idea to visit different ones.

The live music experience at the Kyoto MUSE live house was still “the best moment” at it was in the past.
