Oh, it’s good.
Hey, spring has passed and new greens have been emerging in the sunlight.

Fresh greenery at Myokakuji Temple

It is a perfect day for a temple visiting as the weather is very fine today! As the word “Myokaku” means “unsurpassed enlightenment,” you will feel truly clear and radiant.

Now, let’s go to Myokakuji-Temple together.

Gate of Myokakuji Temple

Myokakuji-Temple, whose origin was when it was built in Shijo Omiya (Kyoto City Shimo Ward) by Ryuka-in Nissane Shonin in 1378 in Muromachi Period. There was a house of Ono Myokaku, a believer and wealthy merchant, here, and this temple was built there. Then, in 1483, it was moved to Nijo Kinodana by the order of Ashikaga Yoshinao, the ninth Shogun. In Sengoku Period, it had a large site, as did Myokenji Temple.

Precincts of Myokakuji Temple

The current precincts are small and compact, but that’s what makes them so nice, isn’t it? Look! There’s no one. That is a good point.

Until the time of Nobunaga, Myokakuji Temple was the lodging house of various figures, including the 13th Shogun Ashikaga Yoshiteru, Oda Nobunaga, and Date Masamune, and tea ceremonies were held there by Sen no Rikyu.

Among all, it was the most popular lodging of Lord Nobunaga Oda.

Nobunaga Oda

Of the more than 20 times Lord Nobunaga came to Kyoto, he stayed at Myokakuji Temple 18 times.

Then, in 1583, it was moved to its current location (Kamigyo Ward Kyoto City, Kyoto Prefecture) under the order of Hideyoshi Toyotomi to organize Rakuchu. Today, the temple still offers numerous attractions, including the Uranobon Gosho, designated as a National Important Cultural Property, the Kaho-do (*designated as a Tangible Cultural Property by Kyoto Prefecture), which features door paintings by the Kano school, and three gardens with different styles.

The visit is limited to a certain period of time and is not always available. However, even that is true, you can still feel very quiet and calm just by coming here.

So, I think temples are really nice places to visit.

Blue sky and sun

Oh. What a surprise! They are going to hold a special viewing of fresh greenery starting in May. I shouldn’t miss this opportunity. I must be able to see the beautiful new greens.
