Choosing souvenirs when travelling is part of the fun, but they are often bulky, heavy and tiring on the return journey home.

That is shichimi (seven spice). There are several shops in the capital that mix shichimi to customers’ tastes right in front of them, and some of them have a humorous name, “Maiko han hii~hi~hi”, and have a signature product, the world’s hottest shichimi using both falcon claws and the extremely hot habanero pepper.
Harayokaku, which has its head office in Gion, has even launched a limited-time-only crisp that recreates its famous black shichimi.
It feels like a different seasoning to the shichimi on the market, so try it if you get the chance.

A native of Nishijin, Kyoto. Kitano Tenmangu Shrine, Seimei Shrine, and the Kyoto Imperial Palace are places I have been familiar with since childhood.
However, since none of my relatives grew up in Kyoto except my father and sister, I speak Kansai dialect but can hardly speak Kyoto dialect... (My grandparents are from Kagawa and my mother is from Kobe)
