Café Zou

Is this Café Zou? I’ve finally made it here. It’s located a few meters east of the Horikawa-Tateuri bus stop, or a 10-minute walk west from Karasuma-Imadegawa Station.

This is retro café which opened in 2019. I came here today because I’d heard through the grapevine that this is a place where you can enjoy a variety of delicious dishes while soaking up a retro atmosphere.

Inside, there were a total of 18 seats – 6 at the counter and 12 at tables, – and the interior was compact with a wood-toned décor. It seemed like most of the customers were women, though a few men dropped by as well. So, what kind of menu does Café Zou offer? Let’s take a look.

I see, I see. So for example, there’s a menu like this. Oh, Nongo juice? No, apple juice. I almost got fooled by the lighting. Well then, let’s give this a try today.

Miso Shop’s Egg Sandwich (935 yen)

This egg sandwich was quite large and filling. If you’re really hungry, this alone probably won’t be enough, so I’d also recommend the miso-simmered udon. I did think the egg sandwich might be a good choice for a light meal.

And for dessert, I decided to try something called a “crepe lin.”

Crepe Pudding (1,100 yen)

Crepes and pudding. It was a great value dessert that let me enjoy both treats at once. The moist sweetness of caramel-topped pudding and a thin crepe with a slightly stronger sweetness. The combination of these two creates a double dose of sweetness. This is sure to be a treat for anyone with a sweet tooth. Plus, it’s reasonably priced.

Cream Soda (with cookie: 760 yen; without cookie: 660 yen)

A cream soda topped with an elephant shaped cookie. This is a rare cream soda that you can only find at this shop.
