Hello, everyone. I hope you’re all doing well today. Reality can be tough, but let’s keep surviving, even if it means facing both wins and loses along the way. That said, the harsh reality is pretty rough, isn’t it? I just can’t take it anymore. I want to run away, I’m sleepy, and I just want to take it easy. It’s been a while since I’ve felt this way, so today I decided to drop by here for the first time in a long time.

Coffee Tougenkyo

Get off at the Imadegawa-Omiya bus stop and walk a short distance down Omiya-dori, and you’ll soon come across the coffee shop “Coffee Tougenkyo”. I wonder how many years it’s been since I last came here.

It’s been 13 years – or maybe even longer. In any case, it’s been a long time since my last visit. It’s harsh, but I suppose you could say it’s fun… an unreasonable, annoying, and filthy world out there where nothing comes cheap. Let’s escape from all that and spend today relaxing and recharging. That’s it – let’s go to Coffee Tougenkyo.

The café has both counter and table seating. Since it was lunchtime, I decided to grab a bite to eat at a table.

There are various items on the menu, but

Among the options, the “Homemade Beef Tendon Curry” caught my eye, so I decided to order that.

Menu 2

Here it is.

Homemade Beef Tendon Curry

At first glance, I thought it contained nothing but rice and curry sauce, but it actually had some delicious beef tendon in it. And then I realized… I thought this curry would taste even better with some toppings. As listed on the menu, there are various toppings available, such as grilled cheese (200 yen), sausage, and hamburger streak (300 yen), so I was sure it would taste even better if I added some – no doubt about it. That said, it was delicious even without any toppings.

By the way, here’s the cheese topping.

And I also ordered this item, thinking of it as dessert.

Chocolate Banana Toast

Chocolate Banana Toast (700 yen)

It’s exactly what it sounds like: toast spread with chocolate and topped with sliced banana. There’s nothing particularly elaborate about it. It’s incredibly simple – exactly what it looks like. But that’s what makes it interesting. Instead of complaints like, “What on earth is this? It’s exactly the same!” people actually found it funny and quipped, “Oh, so it really is exactly the same (lol).”
Of course, I enjoyed it very much. I ate the chocolate toast with a banana. The delicious combination of chocolate and banana, along with the crisp texture of the toast, makes for a truly delicious treat.

On top of that, I saw a barista at the counter making what looked like a really delicious cup of coffee using a siphon, so I was inspired to order some coffee as well. Here’s what I ordered.

Bourbon Amarelo

Bourbon Amarelo (600 yen)

Generally speaking, coffee is a bitter drink. However, this Bourbon Amarelo coffee was exceptionally smooth and easy to drink, with a subtle sweetness. It’s delicious black, but adding milk makes it even smoother, and that richness fills your mouth. I’m not particularly picky about coffee myself, but I thought this was delicious.

They also offer several other varieties of coffee, including the “Geisha,” which features a perfect balance of fruity aroma, body, and flavor, and the “Tanzania Deep Blue,” known for its smooth acidity and a rich body reminiscent of raisins.

As I was relaxing in the café, a few customers came in. I gathered they were regulars. It really struck me how cheerfully they were chatting with the staff member behind the counter.

Thanks to this café, I was able to completely escape reality and relax from noon until around 3:00 p.m. with a book in hand. Also, the coffee is really delicious, so you should definitely give it a try.
