Oh, what a soothing blue interior this place has. The lighting isn’t too dim or too bright – it’s just the right shade of blue. I really love this kind of atmosphere.

Hello everyone. I’m visiting café Soiree located in Shijo Kawaramachi today. Soiree opened on April 11, 1948, shortly after the end of the war, and has been known from the very beginning for its policy of not playing background music. When you visit there, a blue light welcomes us all.
“Blue light makes women look beautiful and men look youthful, so why not use it for the shop lighting?” It is said that the shop began using blue lighting after receiving this advice from the founder’s friend, dyeing researcher Rokuro Uemura (former director of the International Museum of Dyeing and Weaving and professor at Osaka University of Arts and Sciences, 1894 – 1991), when the shop first opened. That’s why, back in the day, the seats at the back of the first floor were apparently sometimes used as a place for arranged marriages.
Once you know that, spending time inside the café – combined with the blue lighting – gives you a truly mystical feeling. Incidentally, the café’s name, “Soiree,” means “a lovely evening” or “evening party” in French. The interior truly evokes the feeling of a “lovely evening.”
Now, at Café Soiree, the Jelly Punch” is a famous and popular item.

Purple, red, green, yellow, and blue. The colorful five-hued jellies shimmer like jewels inside the glass. It looked so beautiful and striking that I found myself gazing at it for a while, thinking it was almost a shame to drink it. When you spend a “wonderful evening” in a quiet space, soothed by the sight of colorful jelly gems. It’s so relaxing.
We also have other drinks like this.

They have quite a selection on the menu.

Also, speaking of things that caught my eye, there’s this glass filled with water.

There was another stylish touch here, too.
I want to spend a lovely evening here, relaxing in the soft blue lighting. Café Soiree is the perfect place for just that. Shall I go again soon? Let’s do that.
