Hello, everyone. It is cold today as well. I would like to spend indoor on such a cold day. So, today, I am now such a place.

Kyoto Cultural Museum

Exterior view of the Museum of Kyoto.

Please look at this building. This museum has two separate buildings, the main building and the annex building, the photo on this site is that of the annex building. This is the building of the former Bank of Japan, Kyoto Branch, which has been designated an important cultural asset. The brick slate and copper shingle exterior of the building gives it a sense of history.

I had a very productive time at this museum. First and foremost, you can feel the weight of Kyoto’s history of some 1,200 years. I think this was invaluable experience for me.

Since the capital was moved to Heian-kyo in 794 during the reign of Emperor Kanmu, Kyoto’s history has continued for a continuous period of 1,200 years.

Images of the four deities and the shrines in which they are enshrined.

How have the people of Kyoto lived in those times and in that era, and what kind of culture has blossomed among the people of Kyoto? The history is displayed very easily to understand.

To know the living of people of that age by retrospection of the history. To learn about the way of life of the people who lived in the ‘now’ of that period, to learn about the origins of society, and to learn about the origins of culture. And from this, new discoveries and new values are found.

From the standpoint of the present, we know our history, we know our traditions and we pass them on to the future. To continue to change while protecting what remains the same and what is important. To create a new tomorrow for each of us.

I felt this way myself when I came into contact with the museum’s exhibits, and it was a day that reminded me once again of the weight of history.

Incidentally, Kyoto Cultural Museum offers not only the history of Kyoto, but also a variety of other events, including general exhibitions, special exhibitions and a film theater.

For example, in the general exhibitions, when I visited, there were exhibitions on the themes of ‘Japanese Archaeology’s Nose Master Sadamiki Fuji’, ‘Surrealism and Kyoto’ and ‘Surrealism and Japan’.

Twice a day, the Film Theater screens Japanese classics and masterpieces from Kyoto Prefecture’s collection, which can be viewed in a comfortable environment with state-of-the-art projectors and sound equipment.

It’s not all. In the lobby in front of the theater, there is also an exhibition of materials and explanatory panels related to the films shown, which can be enjoyed in conjunction with the films.

We can know the importance of Kyoto history. And not only that, visitors can have a variety of experiences in the comprehensive exhibitions, special exhibitions and film theater.

The Kyoto Cultural Museum was packed with many different cultural attractions.
