How have you been, everyone? This is the defeated soldier. What would happen when Susanoo-no-Mikoto defeats Yamata-no-Orochi? Well, let’s continue the story.

Susanoo-sama named the sword he cut that Yamata-no-Orochi as Orochi-no-Aramasa. The sword was passed down to Isono-Kamino-Miya. It was the origin of Kamutomo-no-o in Kibi. It is said to have been passed down to the mountains above the river in Izumo. (*Kamutomo-no-o is an ancient priestly occupation.) (*This is said to be the Ishigami Nutu no Tama Shrine in Bizen.)

At that time, when Susanoo-no-Mikoto cut the tail of Yamata-no-Orochi, the blade of the sword that Susanoo-sama was wearing on his waist chipped off just a little.

Then, Susanoo-sama thought this suspicious, so he stabbed the tip of his sword and split it open, and found in the tail a divine sword, the Tachi (sword) of Tumugari, which is a very sharp and mysterious sword.

This sword is the famous and much talked about Kusanagi no Turugi. The Kusanagi Sword is also written as Kusanagi no Turigi.

The sword is said to be located in the village of Ayuchi in the country of Owari (present-day Aichi Prefecture). In short, the deity that administrates the Hafuri of Atuta, an ancient Shito priesthood is said to have this sword.

The original name of the sword was the Ama-no-Murakumo-no-Turugi. It seems that on top of the Orochi being there, there were clouds, which are always cloud air. Hence the name.

(This sword originally belonged to Susanoo-no-Mikoto, but there is a theory that it went to the country of Owari) Susanoo-no-Mikoto said: What a divine sword this is! I should not use this sword. Why can I make this sword to my own?

Susanoo-sama declared this, and immediately sent his fifth grandson, Amanofukine-no-kami to present it to the heaven. This sword is the Kusanagi Sword, which has been handed down to the present day.

(According to one theory, Susanoo-no-Mikoto was fascinated by the sword and tried to make it his own, but he soon came to his senses and sent an envoy to present the sword to Amaterasu no Omikami, who was in Takamagahara. This sword is the Kusanagi no Turugi, which was given to the heroic god Yamatotakeru no Mikoto by Yamatohime, and which he used to wield with great authority.)

(Swords and knives are made of iron and will always rust and decay. However, it is thus passed on in mythology that it becomes eternal as a spirit of speech. The power of the invisible sword of the divine age is passed on by the Shinto priests of Kamutomo no o in Kibi and Hafuri in Atuta, as the Totuka Sword and the Kusanagi Sword, which are passed down through the swordsmith’s art of swordsmithing).
