Thank you, Jizo, for today too.
In the evening on that day, I was praying a Jizo near my house.
This Jizo is said to be a bodhisattva who prolongs our life and gives us welfare, and is popularly known as the Jizo of Life Extension.
I could spend a healthy and safe day without difficulty today too.
I owe it to you, Jizo.
Namu Jizo Bodhisattva “Jizo, I trust you and enlist myself to you.”
Now, why do I say so many prayers of thanks to Jizo? This is because I have a important and never cut bond with Jizo.
Incidentally, Jizo is known as a bodhisattva who saves all of us living in the suffering world during the period of 5.67 billion years until the time next Buddha Maitreya Bodhisattva emerge in this world, after Shakyamuni died and there being no Buddhas who save people in this world.
Jizo, who has the name “Kshitih (earth) and Garbha (womb, womb)” in ancient Indian (Sanskrit) language has a long history with people as a bodhisattva who “embraces people with a heart of compassion as big as the earth that nurtures all living creatures”.

Thinking back, that was when my grandmother who prayed to Jizo every day when I was hospitalized for a serious illness, chose Jizo for Life Extension near my house. In my hospital room, she also placed a carved wooden Jizo statue that my grandmother had treasured as a good luck charm. My father and mother died early in life due to accidents and illness, and I who was raised by my grandmother and grandfather, who were both devout believers in Jizo, grew up familiar with it. So I still recall how I treated the Jizo in my hospital room with the same friendliness as always.
“Please, just that boy, just that boy…”
My grandmother and grandfather, who prayed to the Jizo for the prolongation of my life every day and never missed a visit. Yes, now that I think about it, those two people were the incarnation of Jizo Enmei. I believe that the life of the Jizo resides in the will of my grandmother and grandfather, and that they supported and kept me alive. Yes, for sure.
Because I am living now thanks to them.
I felt it when I was ill, after I was healed from my illness, and still feel it every time I encounter Jizo here and pray.
I certainly feel the presence of Jizo Bodhisattva, who has wrapped us in his compassionate heart; a heart of compassion as great as the earth that nurtures all living things.
The Bodhisattva of Enmei Jizo will be here watching over me and all the rest of us for a long time to come. That is why I pray with all my heart. I will continue to offer prayers of thanksgiving.
Now, in the past, and in the future.
