About Sanzenin Temple

Sanzenin Temple

Sanzenin is a temple of Tendai in Ohara, Sakyo-ku, Kyoto. The origin of Sanzenin is that Saicho opened one temple to Hieizanhigashido from 782 to 806. Since the late Heian period, Sanzenin Temple became a Miaymonato where princes and royalty had served as the main monk, and it is now moving from inside Hiei mountain to Omi Sakamoto and Kyoto City.

Because Kyoto bus runs directly from JR Kyoto Station to Ohara, I think that it is good to use the Kyoto bus. In addition, in the tourist season such as the foliage, the alley of the approach is very crowded by car, and so when you come by car, I think whether it is good to park a car in a nearby parking lot, and to visit by walking.

Sanzenin is a beautiful temple with a Japanese-style spectacle from the approach to the temple and the garden. Also, because there is a temple called Jakkoin nearby, it is also recommended to be seen together here.
