About Nanzenji Temple

nanzenji

Nanzenji Temple is the head temple of the Rinzai Nanzen sect. In 1291, Kameyamahouou founded Nanzenji Temple greeted Mukanfumonzenshi (Daimyokokushi).

The precincts include Sanmon, Hojyo Gardens and Nanzenin. You can go inside the sanmon and climb upstairs. (for a fee) there is a brick aqueduct ahead, and it becomes the photograph spot of the young people. In the Hojyo garden at the most inner part of the precinct, the Sunaniwa called Karesansui is famous. I want to forget the time and look carefully.

Nanzenji Temple is also famous for its cherry blossoms and foliage. If you do not see the Hojyo garden or climb the Sanmon, it is also a nice place to enjoy the red leaves for free.

It is also recommended to leave the Ginkaku temple and walk the philosophical path to see the Eikando and Nanzenji Temple. After leaving the Nanzenji, you can go home from Keage Station on the Kyoto Municipal Subway Tozai Line, which is located in the south.

Nanzenji Junsei’s boiled tofu is a famous restaurant nearby. I have not eaten yet, but I want to go there once.
